March 6, 2024 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Digitized paper maps contain a wealth of historical information, incorporating these resources into a geographic information system (GIS) enhances scholars’ ability to do historical research. This workshop will give a brief overview of QGIS, a free and open-source GIS, and provide a hands-on demonstration of georeferencing a variety of historical maps and images. Attendees will also learn how to derive new data layers from the georeferenced images. Resources will be provided for locating historical maps and images. This hands-on workshop will be held in person. Participants should download and instal QGIS prior to the workshop. Come to the workshop early if you need help.
